Mexico City has more than 329 public markets, where you can find a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, plants, herbs, meats, cheeses, breads, tortillas, as well as groceries and raw materials. But in these markets you will not only find food, they also offer endless crafts, costumes for all occasions, typical and fashionable clothes, traditional Mexican toys and sweets. Here you can find practically everything.


Within the wide variety of markets are those specialized in plants, flowers, furniture, antiques and handicrafts. Visiting them is a unique experience, and it is also an opportunity to consume locally and support local producers and businesses.


Central de abastos:

This is the largest market in the city. Wholesale producers, retailers and individual consumers meet at the Central de Abasto. This market supplies approximately 80% of the city's food consumption. It consists of 327 hectares of commercial spaces, decorated with 16 murals by national and international artists, which art works with the day-to-day life of the people who attend Central de Abastos daily to make their purchases.

San Juan

More than 150 years ago, the officially named Ernesto Pugibet, began as a modest tianguis and today it is one of the most popular in Mexico City. It has a wide selection of high quality products, gourmet and exotic foods that will be an experience for the palate, such as passion fruit, persimmon and carambola. However, their hallmark is the types of meat that they sell such as armadillo, wild boar, tepezcuintle, ostrich or buffalo.

Jamaica

If you want to decorate your house with flowers and plants, this market is the best option. This is the most important national and international market for flowers and ornamental plants in the city. It has approximately 1500 stores where you can find around 5 thousand types of flowers and plants, as well as flower arrangements, flowerpots, garden tools, soil and compost.

Coyoacán

This market is located in the heart of Coyoacán and was inaugurated in 1921, but it was until 1956 that it found its current home on Allende Street. When visiting Coyoacán, the market is a mandatory stop, this traditional space has three warehouses in which you can find a great variety of fruits and vegetables. Of course, you cannot miss the food section with its renowned toasts accompanied with stews such as potatoes in green sauce, leg or chicken, and fresh horchata and hibiscus water.

Lagunilla

La Lagunilla is one of the most famous tianguis-markets in the entire city. Every Sunday antique dealers, merchants and artists meet to trade with nostalgia for vintage and those objects that recall unique times. Next to the antiques market there is a market for clothes, accessories and food.
